Day 09 - 10/10/22 - Kauai, Hawaii

Today's adventure would largely centered around snorkeling.  We were up at 6:30am and watched the ship silently glide through the S shaped channel into the Nawiliwili harbor.  With use of the thrusters the ship slowly nestled against the pier with nary a feel of the time of contact.  We waited with Cathy & Pat who we were sharing an Uber with to the Poipu Beach.

Once off the ship I hailed an Uber and we were directed to wait up near the Athletic Club which is about a 5 minute walk from the terminal.  Freddie, our driver, soon met us and we were off to the Poipu Beach which was about a 25 minute drive away.  Once at the beach we donned our snorkeling gear and checked in with the local lifeguard for local knowledge about snorkeling.  This beach is the popular one for locals.

Our entry point was at the far left end of the beach near a resting large green Hawaiian sea turtle.  These turtles come out of the water to sleep per the naturalist who was there.  The snorkeling was okay and we saw a nice variety of fish.  The water was clear but a bit shallow.  Periodically an ocean swell would come in and it was fun to ride the swell.

We all enjoyed the time and used a shady shelter to dry off and repack for the drive back.  I hailed another Uber and we were picked up by Dave in his Grey Toyota Tacoma Crewcab.  During the drive his wife called and told corny Dad jokes for much of the trip.

At the ship we did a quick clothing change and once again hailed an Uber to Walmart which coincidentally was with our same driver as earlier, Freddie.  Angela and I walked across the street to a music store where Angela purchased a cool ukulele.  We then shopped Walmart for a few items.

We hailed yet another Uber to go to the ABC store near the ship.  While waiting for our ride there was a crew member, an entertainment host, who needed to get back to the ship.  We offered her a ride, but she didn't accept until the Jeep showed up.  There were two of the ship's dancers  who needed a ride, so they piled in with the lady sitting on the fellow's lap.  We were packed sardines for the short ride to the ABC store.  The three crew members ended up walking the rest of the way to the ship while we found a food truck.  We enjoyed sort of a poké bowl while amusing ourselves with many chickens around the table.  After some shopping, we took the free shuttle back to the ship with Abby & Rick.  We set a new record for us today by taking 4 Uber rides in one day!

I photographed a short video of our departure from Nawiliwili.  It is a very tight S curve to enter and depart the port and a tug was on standby  to provide assistance.  It was not needed as the ship's forward thrusters and azipods provided sufficient power to move the ship through the S curve exit despite a moderate breeze.

We ate a very light dinner because of the late afternoon lunch.  We watched Cantaré perform their last set this segment before watching a few sets of Billboard Onboard.
