Day 05 - 10/06/22 - At Sea to Hawaii - Day 4

Today was an interesting combination of activities as we ply our way to Hawaii.  We started the day with mandatory Covid self test.  At 8:30am our stateroom attendant, Romang, delivered a two person self test kit.  We had to each take samples from our nostrils and put the sampled solution in a test device.  We set a 10 minute timer and our tests were negative.  I showed the results to Romang and he marked us off his list.  We were then free to leave our cabin with total freedom but inside the ship, masks must be worn.  Later at noon, we received word that because of the test results, starting after Honolulu on Saturday, masks were only recommended but not required.

Angela had a Hula practice and I ate breakfast before doing some more reading down on deck 2 after which I went to the Main Stage to secure seats for us at Part 2 of the Hawaiian history lesson presentation.  It was a good summary and included some more hula dancing and Hawaiian music.

After another Asian lunch, I grabbed my camera and hung out on the Promenade deck to possibly catch some wildlife photos.  None were taken.  I did have a meeting with one of our tour group leaders at 4:30pm and learned afterwards that she bred German Shepherd dogs.  That's only significant because our son-in-law has a purebred German Shepherd.

The big disappointment of the day came when we went to dinner in the Lido and saw that they were holding the Alaskan Seafood boil.  Two days earlier we had signed up for it and received a telephone call that it was cancelled and we'd have to try for. It on October 29.  I went up to the mater 'd and explained the situation and asked why did we get the call.  There was no answer,  but they did apologize profusely. They did offer us seats, but we declined their offer as we hadn't prepared for it by eating light at lunch. We did make a reservation for 10/29.

After dinner we attended the World premiere of the singing group, Cantare, new set of song from Stage & Screen.  On our last cruise, we had heard this new set was under development and would be performed on this cruise.  The set was wonderful and we returned to see the repeat performance at 9pm.  In between we sat and watched the Billboard Onboard pianists perform songs that never hit number one on the USA Billboard charts.

Tonight we gain another hour to put us on Hawaii time, so we decided to not stay up late and take advantage of some extra sleep.  We have one more sea day tomorrow and we are scheduled to dock in Honolulu on time on Saturday morning.  The ship has been cruising along at around 23 mph and we have made up the 12 hour loss of time due to the medivac on the first day.
